Is Dominic Thiem the next superstar in tennis?

It doesn’t come as a surprise that people are talking about Dominic Thiem now, and it’s for a good reason. He has become the first person to win a Grand Slam, excluding the ‘Big 3’ consisting of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer. Thiem is on the right track to add to his trophy collection at the French Open of 2020. This topic is prevalent throughout the online betting world, and it’s resulting in many bookmakers offering tennis odds at competitive odds. 

This coach, Gunter Brensnik, believes that he’s just getting started and that he considers Thiem can be on tracks to win as many as ten Grand Slams over the next five years. Many believe that Thiem is ‘old’ for winning his first Grand Slam, but his coach argues that tennis players are in their prime between the ages of 26 and 33, giving this rising star an excellent chance to smash his goal. 

More Chances to Beat the Big-3

Thiem has often professed his desire to beat the big three, regardless of their absence, and believes it doesn’t take away this title’s importance. As mentioned previously, he will participate in the French Open in 2020. However, when he competes in the French Open 2020, he wants to beat both Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, or even one of these big names would suffice. 

Dominic is already a two-time finalist in the French Opens and has already beaten the famous Rafael Nadal four times to this date. Thiem favors the clay courts and feels like he thrives in this environment, making his ambitions more reachable and achievable. He is even surprised that his Grand Slam victory didn’t happen on the clay.

Impact of Big-3’s Absence

Ranked at Number three, Dominic Thiem defeated the number fifteen Felix Auger-Aliassime, all within straight sets, at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. He will now face Alex De Minaur within the US Open 2020 quarterfinals. He was in full control of the initial set 5-4, as he then stepped up to serve out. As a subsequent result of this, a low service game, and several unforced errors, Thiem allowed Auger-Aliassime to push the first set into a tiebreaker. However, Thiem didn’tsettle for this and clawed back to the tiebreaker’s winning position and clinched the opening set.

With the world number one player currently disqualified (Novak Djokovic), it’s no surprise that the US Open 2020 is Dominic Thiem’s best chance at securing a win at this maiden slam. However, the runner-up discussed players not giving much importance to the big three’s lack of presence.
